Delicate's Quiet Heart — Loose Print

On a weekday in mid-winter I hiked to the far side of Delicate Arch, looking for the quieter angle—the one most people don't see. The cold had that sharp, breath-clouding bite, and the amphitheater felt empty except for wind moving over slickrock and a dusting of snow in the distance. Five or ten minutes after the sun slipped away, the sky finally answered. A deep wash of pink rose through the clouds while a thin band of yellow held the horizon. The afterglow framed the arch and it stopped feeling like a monument and more like a living thing—stone warming against the cold, standing watch over the quiet. This is the side of Delicate I wanted: solitude, restraint, and a soft fire held in winter.
